NELSON, Ervin Edward, Jr

February 17, 2011 Leave A Condolence

In Memorial

Age 95, died peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family, on February 12, 2011. He was an aircraft mechanic in WWII, and worked for the Corps of Army Engineers. He met, and married the love of his life for 59 years, Elizabeth Turnage, in a small town in Mississippi. After earning a degree in Civil Engineering from Ole Miss, he and Elizabeth moved to Phoenix in 1950. Eddie worked for the City of Phoenix and the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Sacaton, Arizona. Always involved in civic and philanthropic organizations, he felt it was important to help others and give back to his community. He belonged to the Civitan Club, the Don’s Club, El Zaribah Shriner’s Greeter Unit, The Nomads, AARP and NARFE. He was very proud to be a charter member of Paradise Valley United Methodist Church. Eddie is preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth and survived by his daughter Frances Lax-Carry (Mike), granddaughter Erin Lax-Robinson, and grandson Michael Lax, (fiancée Camber Johnson). He was blessed with many wonderful friends and we all will miss the warm, caring, humorous, fun father/grandfather/friend. Services will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Paradise Valley United Methodist Church, 4455 E. Lincoln Drive. The family suggests contributions to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 85014.
