John Garcia Nuanez

John Garcia Nuanez, born June 22, 1921, 90 years old passed away May 22, 2012. Born in St. Johns, Arizona, the 7th of 9 children to Tomasita and Rafael Nuanez, also from St. Johns, Arizona. He moved to Phoenix in 1941 where he met and married Angelina on April 11, 1942. He was drafted into the Army on December 15, 1942, while in World War II, he was decorated with the Medal of Valor, the Arrowhead for the invasion of France at Normandy Beach, the Bronze Star and the Silver Star. He was Honorably Discharged on November 2, 1945 as a Tech 5. John was proud of his service to his country. John retired from the City of Phoenix where he worked as a heavy equipment operator. His passion was hard work. John is survived by 3 children, John, Wallace and Gloria Nuanez-Magner, Two daughter-in-laws, Kim and Gloria, also blessed with 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 23 great great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 from 1:00-2:00 P.M., at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Rd., Phoenix. Funeral Mass will be on May 30, 2012 at 10:00 A.M., at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 400 N. 30th St., Phoenix. Interment to follow at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix. John will always be our hero.
