Amalia Ashurst

Amalia Ashurst, passed away on Thursday, December 25, 2025, at the age of 94. She was born in Ameca, Jalisco, Mexico, on January 26, 1931. Amalia gave birth to José Manuel Ashurst on December 20, 1950. As a single mother for five years, she dedicated herself to caring for her child. One special day, she met her beloved husband, Earl Ashurst, whom she married in 1971. She began a new life with her family in Brawley, California. Amalia later gave birth to her second son, Robert Ashurst, who sadly passed away at the age of one from a rare condition. Amalia, Earl, and José loved him dearly.

Amalia's connection to nature was evident in everything she did, from mountain walks and rock hunting trips with her husband to the loving care she gave her rose garden. She took immense pride in her roses, often relaxing outside to admire them. Indoors, she found comfort and inspiration in her horse portraits and figurines.

Following the passing of her husband in 2011, after a 40-year marriage, Amalia relocated to Phoenix, Arizona. In this new chapter of her life, she spent 14 fulfilling years with her son and his family. Amalia continued to nurture her passion for roses, cultivating a vibrant garden that brought joy to all who visited.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son José Manuel Ashurst, daughter-in-law Josefina Quiroz, and 9 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren whom she deeply loved and cared for.

Amalia entered eternal rest on Christmas Day 2025.

Viewing will take place Wednesday, January 7th at 10 a.m. located at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85018. Followed by the burial at Saint Francis Catholic Cemetery, 2033 N. 48th St., Phoenix, AZ 85008.
