Anne J. Stumpf, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on August 3, 2025. Anne was born to Alan and Gladys Johnstone on February 28, 1933 in Minneapolis, MN. Anne grew up during the height of the great depression and had many moves to different states during her childhood before finally settling in Philadelphia, PA for her high school years. A final move during the second semester of her senior year was to Lancaster, PA, which she wasn’t too thrilled about. After graduating high school, she enrolled in Millersville State Teacher’s College and received her teaching degree. Upon graduation, Anne married Jack M. Stumpf on July 31, 1954. They settled in Philadelphia, where Anne became an elementary school teacher, before a move to Chicago resulted in another teaching position. Keeping with tradition, Anne and Jack made one final move to the Valley of the Sun in 1960. Together, they built a loving life together while raising two sons, Kurt and Karl. She continued to teach as both a substitute and full-time elementary school teacher for another 20+ years, while juggling the responsibilities of raising a family.
Anne’s true passion during her life was music, primarily classical and choral. She was a member of many church choirs over the years and she loved singing and performing, including choral groups travelling to Europe to perform. Anne enjoyed 32 years of retirement and able to travel all over the world with Jack. Australia, New Zealand and the UK where her favorites. Anne also enjoyed spending time reading, staying fit by walking, hiking, and swimming and spending time with family and friends.
Anne is survived by her sons Kurt (spouse, Susan Valocchi) and Karl (fiancé, Joanna Peters) as well as grandchildren, Stephen, Alexander, and Sydney. Anne was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, her parents, brother Richard, sister Fran and grandson, Parker Stumpf.
A small family gathering will be held to celebrate Anne’s life per his wishes. Although the awful disease of dementia took Anne away too soon and robbed her of several years of vitality, there is comfort in knowing that she is no longer suffering.
We love you mom and will miss your presence in our daily life here on earth, but have comfort that your spirit lives on within us.
