James Michael Roderick “Rory” Brophy

James Michael Roderick “Rory” Brophy, aged 81, of Phoenix and Mancos, Colorado, passed away peacefully at his home in Phoenix on June 16, 2021. Rory was the youngest of eight children of Frank Cullen Brophy and Sallie Blake Brophy.

Rory was born in La Jolla, California and attended St. Francis Catholic School in Phoenix, Portsmouth Abbey School in Rhode Island, the University of Madrid, Arizona State University, the University of Arizona, and Thunderbird School of Global Management. He spent most of his life in Phoenix, working at the Arizona Bank, the Tiffany Construction Company, and then embarking on a varied career that included businesses ranging from the Fig Tree Restaurant and the iconic Monastery Bar in Phoenix to a host of diverse real estate projects in Arizona, California and Colorado.

Rory had a rich, interesting life. He studied abroad and travelled the world at a time when very few had those opportunities; he saw great things, discovered worthy causes and made lots of friends. A man of strong convictions, Rory lived on his own terms, successfully immersing himself in and surrounding himself with what he cherished most — family and friends, his Catholic faith, Arizona, books, ranching, his Irish heritage, Mancos, sports, and his beloved dogs. A lifelong athlete who was always ready for a bit of good cheer with family and friends, Rory was active and on his game right up to the end.

Rory is survived by his sister Kathleen; his wife Bridget; sons Parker, Patrick, Brian and Sean Paul; and grandchildren Anna, Blaine, Peyton, Emma, Sarah, Bart, Millie and Hugh. He was preceded in death by his sisters Patricia, Sallie (Goodman), Alice (McChesney), brothers Bill, Blake, and Frank Jr.

On Tuesday June 29, 2021, a visitation will be held at Brophy Chapel, 4701 N. Central Avenue, Phoenix, from 5:00 – 6:30PM, followed by a Rosary at 6:30PM. The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at 1:00PM at Brophy Chapel.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Montelores Catholic Community of South Western Colorado. (970) 565-7308 | 20 S Market St. Cortez, CO 81321
