Carole Spangrud (Mills), 93, of Phoenix, AZ entered the kingdom of heaven peacefully from home on August 14, 2025. She was born May 17, 1932 to Margaret and Lawrence Mills. She attended both the University of Minnesota and The Minneapolis School of Art and Design. Carole was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Tom Spangrud and her daughter Julie Spangrud. She will be dearly missed by her children, Steve Spangrud, Scott (Lora) Spangrud, Paul Spangrud and Dana Samuels. She will be remembered as a generous and caring grandmother to Taylor Spangrud; Amiee, Sara and Nathan Spangurd and Trevor and Justin Samuels. She is also survived by her brother Robert Mills and several nieces and nephews.
Carole’s greatest joy was the time spent making memories with her family. She relished in the food and traditions of the holidays; Christmas Bingo being the family favorite. She excelled as an executive homemaker but also enjoyed memberships to many organizations over the years including Newcomers, Grand Rapids Garden Club, Desert Hills Woman’s Club, PEO, Sweet Adelines and Heritage Bible Church. Her many hobbies included bridge, golf, swimming, crossword puzzles and she always loved fishing with Paul. Carole was a talented artist who enjoyed and exceled at painting and writing poetry.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Carole on Monday, August 25th at 11:00 a.m. in the Oasis room at Sagewood Senior Living in Phoenix, AZ. Please direct memorial donations to the Special Olympics.
