Charles Frederick "Chikk" Myers

Charles Frederick “Chikk” Myers, age 75, of Phoenix, AZ, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on September 16th. Chikk grew up in Delaware, Ohio, where he was the first-born of his family, and quickly became a natural leader, guiding his siblings by example through both their achievements and their adventures. He graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1973, where he played soccer with his father as his coach, and went on to earn his law degree from the University of Toledo College of Law in 1977, and later earned a degree in Taxation from New York University in 1979. While attending the University of Toledo College of Law, Chikk met his first wife, Debbie Orlando. On the advice of his professor, he moved to Phoenix with Debbie, where they raised their five children together. 

After graduating from law school, Chikk moved to Phoenix, Arizona, and began what became more than 40 years of dedicated work as an estate-planning attorney. He eventually established his own practice, Charles F. Myers, P.A., where he served as principal attorney. For more than 25 years, the firm represented clients throughout the Phoenix metro area and beyond, handling business matters, estate planning, trust administration, and whatever else he could do to make his clients lives easier. 

Chikk’s professional accomplishments were many. He served on the University of Toledo Law Review, and later served as a member of the Board of Legal Specialization of the State Bar of Arizona from 2004 to 2009. He mentored many young lawyers and served as an adjunct professor for Arizona State University’s Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law. He was also a past member of the Executive Council of the Probate and Trust Section of the State Bar of Arizona. 

But Chikk was known for far more than his professional accomplishments: he treated both his firm and his clients like family. He was a great listener, with an extraordinary attention to detail, and a brilliant mind for solving problems. He didn’t hesitate to spend his time or resources if he saw someone in need. That was who he was: a man of integrity who lead by example. A generous and kind man who was always thinking of others, putting the needs of others before his own, and touching the lives of everyone he met. He truly lived his life for others, and one of the best gifts he gave to us all was the example that he set. 

Chikk was also a man of many interests: he loved history and had an extensive collection of political and sports memorabilia, much of which graced the halls of his downtown Phoenix office, where he proudly showed it to clients and visitors as his “tour”. He loved sports of all kinds, with a particular love for the Ohio Wesleyan University soccer team, which he had played for, the Ohio State Buckeyes, and the Arizona State University Sun Devils. He had an amazing competitive spirit, and you could see it in his enthusiastic cheering for his teams, his mastery of the pool table, and even in his games of Scrabble. 

Chikk had a special place in his heart for the family’s summer cottage on Lake JoSylvia in Contoocook, New Hampshire. The lake was a place of treasured memories for him and his siblings, and he took great joy in helping create those same kinds of memories for his own children. Memories of fun, laughter, adventures on the lake, family gatherings, and taking time to relax surrounded by the beauty of nature. 

Chikk was generous with both his time and his resources, and the people around him knew they could rely on him when something needed to be done. Whether helping family, friends, clients, or causes he was passionate about, he was someone people could depend on and was always willing to step in when he was needed. 

Later in life, Chikk married Regina, and together they built a loving blended family and a marriage that lasted twenty years. He is survived by his cherished children: Amanda (James) Kunkel, Peter, Matthew, Kelly (Kyle) Sell, and Stephanie (Salvador) Unale; and his stepchildren, Timothy (Brittany), Matthew (Olivia), Joey (Caitlin), Tommy, Daniel (Bailey), and Meghan (Ryan) Agnitsch. Their family continued to grow, and together they share twenty-five grandchildren. 

Chikk is also survived by siblings Sheri (Dan Moore) Myers and Karen Myers (Jim) Harman, and his uncle Edward (Susan) Myers. He is predeceased by his brother Paul, his mother Sylvia and his father Fred Myers. 

In the final months of his life, something beautiful happened. Chikk came to a sincere and personal faith in Jesus Christ. His faith came naturally and sincerely, without pressure, and became a source of peace and comfort in his final months. As his health declined, his heart awakened. He embraced the hope of the Gospel with clarity and peace and lived out that faith with humility and gratitude. Even in his hardest days, he carried a quiet confidence that he was held by the One who loved him most. 

His favorite verse became 1 Peter 5:7: “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” 

That verse came to embody the peace Chikk found in his final days—a peace rooted in faith, love, and the assurance that he was never alone. 

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Chikk’s life on Saturday, October 3rd at 2:00 p.m. at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Rd., with a reception to follow at the Myers’ home.
