Corey Dodd Edens

August 13, 1960 — May 13, 2025

Paradise Valley

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Corey Dodd Edens on May 13, 2025— a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, cherished son, beloved brother, and loyal friend.

Corey was born on August 13, 1960 to William and Metha Edens, in Cut Bank, Montana, just below the Canadian border and near the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains. He treasured his memories of his childhood picking huckleberries in the mountains with his beloved grandfather, Dodd Meade, tending the family vegetable garden with his adored mother, exploring on his dirt bike, snow skiing with his sister Trudy in the winters, water skiing on the beautiful lakes of Montana and working in the family businesses.

Corey graduated from Cut Bank High School in 1978. He was a proud graduate of the University of Montana College of Business. He later served as a Trustee on the University of Montana Foundation and was recognized as the 2014 College of Business Outstanding Alumni. Corey was a seasoned finance and tech executive having built a career marked by curiosity, integrity, and steady resolve. His path took him from Deloitte Haskins + Sells in Denver Colorado, to American Continental in Phoenix, Arizona, to GFTA in Switzerland, to Valcon Distributing in Kallispell, Montana, and to Microsoft in Redmond, Washington. In 2000, Corey returned to Arizona and with a dear friend, co-founded Fireapps, a currency risk management company. He served as its CFO, COO and Chief Product Architect until the company was acquired in 2019. In recent years, he continued to share his wisdom and experience as a trusted consultant.

More than anything, Corey was the kind, solid, gentle rock for his big blended family. He adored and was immensely proud of his brilliant daughters, Shelby and Blaine and in 2011 he married the love of his life, Catherine “Kay” Creighton. He unfailingly and steadfastly embraced, as his own, her children Michael, Elizabeth, Elena, Lauren, and Daniel. He took great joy in becoming “Grandpa Corey” to his grandchildren, Eleanor and Wallace, and shared with them an endless curiosity for all things.

Ceaselessly curious and interested in all people, if you were fortunate to have a conversation with him, he remembered you and saw and heard all the good in you. Corey loved traveling to the mountains, the oceans, the cities and rural countryside. He was equally adept at tending and raising the hundreds of cacti and desert flora at his home, as he was operating an international fin tech start up. He found great joy in good conversation with friends and family and also in quiet evenings at home watching the sun set.

Those who knew Corey remember him for his quiet strength, easy humor and boundless kindness. He led with humility, gave of himself generously, and loved deeply. Corey’s steady presence and gentle heart left a lasting imprint on everyone lucky enough to know him.

He is survived by his beloved wife Catherine, adored children Shelby Culp (Rob), Blaine Edens, and Michael, Elizabeth, Elena, Lauren, and Daniel Weinberger, grandchildren Eleanor and Wallace Culp, his mother Metha (Meade) Edens, and sister Trudy Gebhard (John). Corey is also survived by many nieces and nephews, Kay’s father, brothers and sisters and their families, and truly special friends. Corey is preceded in death by his father William Edens and grandfather, Dodd Meade.

A Mass honoring Corey’s life will be held at Brophy Chapel, 4701 N Central Avenue, Phoenix Arizona 85013, on Monday, May 19th at 12:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Corey’s name to the Cut Bank Educational Foundation and Alumni Association: The Corey D.
