Corinne Fay (Glander) Mote was born on January 14th, 1927, and raised in the small town of Wahpeton, North Dakota. Corinne’s friends called her Corky, and many family members called her Mumsie. She resided in Phoenix, Arizona for most of her life. We are blessed that she lived for 98 years. Corinne passed peacefully due to heart failure in her Ralph Haver home in Marvin Grove’s edition on May 4th, 2025. She was very proud of her beautiful home and lived there for 72 years. Corinne was an intelligent, compassionate, and witty woman. She married Theodore (Ted) David Mote on December 26th, 1947. She had fond memories of the dance clubs they belonged to in the early years of their marriage. They had wonderful neighbors, danced in the street, had picnics in the desert, and hosted many house parties. Corinne and Ted built the Dolphin Swim Club in Phoenix and owned it for several years. Corinne and Ted separated in the early 1960s and eventually divorced.
Corinne attended college at North Dakota University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism. She continued her education at Arizona State University following her separation from Ted, where she earned a master’s degree in education. Corinne earned enough credits for a Ph.D. but chose to take classes of her interest instead. She worked hard to continue her education so she could move up on the pay scale. Corinne taught second grade at Mountain View elementary school in the Washington school district for 24 years. Mountain View is located in a lower income area, and she had many Southeast Asian students who learned the English language in her classroom. She had a deep love for children, and surely many of her students remember her.
Corinne was very adventurous. She loved nature – plants, flowers, mountains, and scenery. One of her favorite places was Mission Beach in San Diego, California, where she vacationed with her family for many years. She traveled to 34 countries with her friends. She enjoyed swimming, bowling, playing tennis, and playing bridge. At one point, she belonged to five bridge clubs. Corinne loved to spend time with her family and friends. Her influence will live through those she was grateful to cross paths with, and her spirit will live in the hearts of those who loved her forever. Survivors include her children, Diane Mote (David Ouimette), Steven Mote, Jack Mote, and Sharon Medd. Corinne had five grandchildren, Sara Ouimette, Amy Waxman (Aaron Waxman), Nicole Schirm Mote, Alicia Medd, and Lynsey Medd, and four greatgrandchildren, Madeline Waxman, Calvin Waxman, Vincent Schirm, and Aurora Bowen. She will be missed by her neighbor Sandy Solimeno, and her only surviving long-term friend, Dixie Carpenter. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto Carl Glander and Emma Glander, her brother Jack Glander and his former wife, Janet Glander, her granddaughter Nicole Mote Schirm, as well as all of her aunts, uncles, in-laws, and their spouses.
Corinne lived her life to the fullest. The celebration of life will be held at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 East Indian School Road, Phoenix, Arizona, 85018, on Sunday, May 18th at 11:00am.
