Phoenix

Dawn Benson Corley, 91, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2026. In her final days, she was surrounded by all her children and grandchildren and passed peacefully in the cherished company of her husband, Vaughn “Skip” Corley.

Dawn was born on May 4, 1934, in Elmhurst, Illinois, to Hilmer and Verna Benson. She attended the University of Arizona on a piano scholarship and joined the Delta Gamma Sorority where she later became president. After graduation, Dawn married Skip and together they began their Air Force days where Skip was an engineering officer. Following their four years of service, Dawn and Skip returned to Arizona where they raised their family.

Dawn was a life-long Girl Scout and served as leader for both her daughter’s troops. Later, she became president of the Arizona Cactus-Pine Girl Scout Council (Central and Northern Arizona) and then served on the National Girl Scout Board, attending meetings at the nation’s capital in Washington, D.C.

Family was central to Dawn’s life, and she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She had a deep love for the outdoors … golfing, skiing, hiking, tennis, the beach, and doing things with her family. Her positive spirit was a hallmark. She will be remembered for her thoughtful, unselfish friendships and for the way she loved others.

She is survived by Skip; her children, Kim Humphrey (Tim) and Skip Jr. (Lisa); grandchildren Lauren Richards (Josiah), Katie Humphrey, Michael Humphrey (Dani), Lindsay Clifford (Kyle), Mackenzie Smith (Brad), Chad Corley (Holly), Tommy Platt, Hank Platt and Woodrow Platt; great grandchildren Corley Owsley, Jack and Brody Clifford, Chance Smith, and Cameron and Harper Corley. She was preceded in death by her daughter Karen and grandson Chase Corley.

A small family celebration will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her memory to Arizona Cactus-Pine Girl Scouts or Ryan House.

She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
