Delores Kathryn Haddy

Delores Haddy, 99, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.

She was born on March 31, 1927, in Conger, Minnesota, to Thomas and Sophia (Abodeely) Shaheen. The family later moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where Delores grew up alongside her five brothers and sister. She attended Roosevelt High School and, after graduating in 1945, worked at the Shaheen family grocery store.

Delores married Albert Haddy on October 26, 1947. Together, they worked at Haddy’s Corner Market in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Delores left the family business to become a stay-at-home mother to their two children, Anita and Michael, in 1954. They later moved to Albert Lea, Minnesota, then Boone, Iowa, and finally, in 1958, business opportunities brought the family to Phoenix, Arizona, where Delores remained for the rest of her life.

Delores enjoyed spending time with family, entertaining at her home during the holidays, shopping, bowling, sewing, crocheting, and her guilty pleasure—going to the casino. She was also deeply involved with St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church for more than 60 years. She sang in the choir, cooked famously delicious Lebanese food for church events, and served as President of the Ladies Auxiliary in 1979.

Her nephews, Eddie Hidder and Joseph Hidder, were her guardian angels in her later years—visiting nearly every day, making sure she got to church, doctor’s appointments, and, of course, all important trips to the casino. Their devotion to “Aunt DD” was undeniable. Their compassion and support mean more than words can express.

Delores was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Albert Haddy; her brothers, DeLane, Douglas, Donald, Thomas Jr., and Dennis; and her sister, Yvonne.

She is survived by her daughter, Anita Haddy (Ramona); her son, Michael Haddy (Deborah); and four grandchildren: Kevin Robins, Jennifer Robins, Lindsay Haddy (Jonathan), and Nicole Haddy (Lee). She also leaves behind countless nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a virtual army of fiercely loyal and loving friends.

For those fortunate enough to have known Delores, her absence is immeasurable. So, too, is the gratitude of having had her in their lives. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at 11:30a.m. at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, 4530 E. Gold Dust Avenue, Phoenix, Arizona. Burial will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church in Delores’s memory. The church was a cherished and meaningful part of her life for more than 60 years.
