Elioenai Cocoba Fuentes, affectionately known as Eli, was called home to our Lord on Saturday, August 3, 2024. Born on March 25, 2001, in Phoenix, Arizona. He was the cherished son of Maria Fuentes and Walter Mayen and the loving brother of Mia who will miss him dearly. Known for his kind heart, quick wit and infectious smile. Eli was a beacon of light in the lives of those who touched.

Eli’s journey, though brief, was marked by an unwavering spirit of kindness, and a passion for life. He was very involved in family and in his church from a very young age, and embraced his life in service. He learned to play the drums around the age of seven, and it quickly grew into a passion. This passion allowed him to use his musical talent to play with his church’s worship team, creating memories that his family and friends will always treasure. Growing up in the Valley of the Sun, Eli’s “second home” was the Boys and Girls Club. During his time at the Boys and Girls Club, he won leadership awards such as “Keystoner of the Year” in both 2017 and 2018. He also completed over 1,700 hours of community service, earned the Presidential Service Award and was selected for the Future Presidents of America Award. In 2019, he won the “Youth of the Year” awards for his excellent character, hard work, dedication and inspiration to others. He loved being of service to others, and he often led initiatives to support the less fortunate. Including civic participation, to get out the vote in his hometown and coordinating rides to the polls for elders and those without access to transportation.

Eli was a 2019 graduate of Central High School, where he played football and golf. While in high school, he also had the opportunity to travel to China as a foreign exchange student. He treasured the experience of learning other cultures, and was always eager to learn and explore new ideas. He was known for his ability to light up a room, and his readiness to embark on new adventures, whether it was traveling to China, Puerto Rico, or Mexico, Eli’s adventurous spirit was always ready.

Eli‘s legacy of kindness, passion, and his adventurous spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He is survived by his parents, Maria and Walter, and his younger sister Mia, his maternal grandmother Lucia, many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and his beloved dog Milo.

A service to celebrate Eli‘s life will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at 10a.m. at La Hermosa Church located at 4302 E. Broadway Road in Phoenix, Arizona. Following the service, Eli will be laid to rest at Paradise Memorial Gardens located at 9300 East Shea Boulevard. in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Elioenai Cocoba Fuentes, mejor conocido como Eli, fue llamado a casa de nuestro Señor el día sábado 3 de agosto del 2024. Nació el 25 de marzo del 2001 en Phoenix, Arizona. Fue hijo querido de María Fuentes y Walter Mayen y el hermano amado de Mia. Conocido por su buen corazón y sonrisa contagiosa, Elí fue luz en las vidas de aquellos quienes tuvieron la dicha de conocerlo. La vida de Eli, aunque fue breve, fue marcada por un espíritu inquebrantable de bondad. Eli se involucró en su iglesia desde muy joven. Aprendió a tocar la batería cuando tenía siete años y ahí fue donde Eli descubrió unas de sus pasiones. Esta pasión le permitió usar su talento musical para tocar con el equipo de adoración de su iglesia, creando recuerdos que su familia y amigos siempre recordarán. Al crecer en el Valle del Sol, el “segundo hogar” de Eli fue el Boys and Girls Club. Durante su tiempo en el Boys and Girls Club, ganó premios de liderazgo como "Keystoner of the Year" tanto en 2017 como en 2018. Además completó más de 1,700 horas de servicio comunitario, obtuvo el Premio al Servicio Presidencial y fue seleccionado por el premio conocido como “Future Presidents of America”. En 2019 ganó el premio “Joven del Año” por su excelente carácter, dedicación e inspiración para los demás. Le encantaba estar al servicio de los demás y dirigía iniciativas para apoyar a los menos afortunados. Eli fue parte de un proyecto comunitario que ayudaba a personas ejercitar su derecho civil de votar. En el 2019, Eli se graduó de la secundaria Central High School, donde jugó fútbol americano y golf. Mientras asistía a la secundaria, tuvo la oportunidad de viajar a China como estudiante de intercambio. Siempre le interesó conocer otras culturas y siempre estaba ansioso por aprender y explorar diferentes lugares. Ya sea viajando a China, Puerto Rico o México, el espíritu aventurero de Eli siempre estaba listo.

El legado de bondad, pasión y espíritu aventurero de Eli vivirá en los corazones de quienes lo conocieron. Le sobreviven sus padres, María y Walter, su hermana menor Mía, su abuela materna Lucía, muchas tías, tíos, primos, amigos y su amado perro Milo.

Se llevará a cabo un servicio para celebrar la vida de Eli el día jueves 15 de agosto de 2024 a las 10a.m. en La Hermosa Church ubicada en 4302 E. Broadway Road, Phoenix, Arizona. Después del servicio, Eli será enterrado en Paradise Memorial Gardens ubicado en 9300 East Shea Boulevard, Scottsdale, Arizona.
