Ernest Torres Sierra

Ernest Torres Sierra, a cherished husband, devoted father, and a beloved member of his community, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on March 8, 1944, in Phoenix, Arizona, Ernest was a beacon of strength and kindness, touching the lives of everyone he encountered with warmth and sincerity.

Ernest was the beloved son of Haviel and Fidela Sierra, who preceded him in death, along with his brothers Gilbert and Robert, sisters Gloria and Carrie, and nephew Robert Leal. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Marie, with whom he shared a beautiful life filled with unwavering love and mutual respect. Their marriage, which began on May 15, 1970, in Phoenix, was a testament to commitment and partnership, raising four wonderful children: Christine, Jennifer (Kim), Andrew, and Stephanie (John).

Ernest was a proud grandfather to seven cherished grandchildren: Sean, Jason, Aidan, Kylin, Alani, Fernando, and Venezia, who brought immense joy and pride into his life. Though he leaves no great-grandchildren, his legacy will live on through the memories and values he instilled in his family.

A graduate of Phoenix Union High School, Ernest went on to serve his country with honor as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps from 1964 to 1968. His dedication to service was a defining characteristic of his life, both in the military and in his community. After his service, Ernest worked diligently as a machine operator at Western Electric for 19 years, contributing his skills and dedication for many years until his early retirement in 1986/87.

An active member of his community, Ernest found joy in simple pleasures and dedicated his time to activities he loved, such as lawn care, working on his truck, coaching and spent countless hours listening to his albums and cassette tapes. His passion for these pastimes was eclipsed only by his love for his family and his commitment to helping those around him.

A service to honor and celebrate Ernest's life will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, located at 4800 E Indian School Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85018. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and pay their respects to a man who has left an indelible mark on all who knew him. A graveside service with US Marine Honors will follow at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Arizona Hospice & Palliative Care Organization at ahpco.org, in gratitude for the compassionate care Ernest received. We have also set up a GoFundMe campaign for the Ernie Sierra Scholarship to support a student athlete from Independence High School. The family would also like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at Arizona State Veteran Home and Stillwater Hospice for their unwavering support and kindness during this difficult time. “Forever in our hearts.”
