Gloria “Isabel” Hernandez, age 81, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away on August 8, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on November 7, 1944, she lived a life defined by kindness, resilience, and a deep devotion to the people she cared for.
She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose gentle presence made every room feel lighter. Isabel had a gift for making others feel seen and valued — through her warm smile, her thoughtful advice, and her unwavering support. She loved music and knew the lyrics to most songs, if not every song, carrying that joy with her everywhere she went.
Isabel is survived by her siblings: Johnny Espinoza (spouse Gloria), Delores Garcia (husband Gilbert), Eddie Espinoza (spouse Judy), Mary Knight, Allen Espinoza (wife Lorraine), Veronica Trefren (husband Paul), and Lenora Espinoza.
She is also survived by her children: Steve Hernandez (spouse Sally) and Kathy Hernandez (partner Kristen Mulligan). Her grandchildren: Robert Hernandez, Stacey Hernandez, Sara Jenkins, Danelle Hernandez, and Steven Hernandez (spouse Shannon). Her great grandchildren: Parker, Airis, Liala, Brinley, and Elias.
She is preceded in death by her parents, David and Bessie; her brother Danny Espinoza; her sisters Helen Gregorio, Virginia Espinoza, Josie Espinoza, and Teresa Espinoza; her husband Robert Hernandez; and her son Robert Carl Hernandez.
A celebration of her life will be held on September 17th at Saint Thomas The Apostle Church, 2312 E Campbell Ave, Phoenix, Arizona, with visitation at 10:00 AM, Rosary at 10:30 AM and Mass at 11:00. Her burial will immediately follow at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 2929 E Pinnacle Peak Rd, Phoenix, Arizona at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a pet rescue of your choice, in reflection of her lifelong commitment to helping others.
Her love remains with us — steady, enduring, and forever felt.
