Gordon Reed Toland, Jr.

Gordon Reed Toland, Jr., 77, of Paradise Valley, AZ, passed suddenly on May 26, 2025. Beloved husband of Mary Kathryn (Katie) nee Unger, dear brother to Amalia Susan Wappes (Dale) and Gregg Toland. Preceded in death by his brother Nils and parents Gordon Reed Sr. and Amalia Toland. He was an adored brother-in-law, cousin, uncle, great-uncle and friend.

Gordon will be remembered as a loving and adventurous spirit with infinite curiosity, who shared his interests generously. Known for his keen intelligence, he never stopped developing new areas of knowledge and expertise. He traveled the world, first as a college student, exploring every corner of the earth during a year-long academic program, World Campus Afloat/Chapman College, and later in life with his wife, Katie. He was an accomplished sailor, a collector of classic cars and more, an avid reader, and lover of all games. Together, he and Katie warmly welcomed family members and friends into their life at their cherished lake house, for good times on and off the water and in Arizona, creating unforgettable memories.

Gordon grew up in Glenview, Illinois, and was a longtime resident of Chicago, where he built a successful furniture rental company before transitioning his career to real estate investment. Throughout their 34-year marriage, he and Katie shared their time between their lakehouse and the Scottsdale area, a place they both loved.

Gordon will be deeply missed and remembered. Visitation, Tuesday, June 3 from 4-7 p.m. at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Rd, Phoenix, Arizona. Funeral Mass, Wednesday, June 4 at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 7655 E. Main Street, Scottsdale, AZ, followed by interment at St. Francis Cemetery, 2033 N. 48th St., Phoenix, AZ.
