Paradise Valley

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Ilse Liebscher Avery, who departed from this world on May 12, 2024, in Paradise Valley, Arizona. Born on August 29, 1942, in Görlitz, Germany, Ilse's journey came to a peaceful end at her home.

Ilse's life was marked by her brilliant mind and an energetic spirit that radiated love and vitality. Ilse’s family left war torn Germany for the US in 1952 and finally settled in Waynesville, North Carolina. She graduated from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, and was a proud member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. Her zest for life was evident in her love for travel, exploring the world with family and friends, creating memories that will be cherished forever.

A lover of animals, Ilse had a special place in her heart for her dogs, whom she adored and cared for as if they were her own children.

Ilse remained active throughout her life, appreciating everything from fine dining to the simple pleasure of street food from a local vendor. She was a pillar of strength for her friends, always there when they needed her most, showing up with a helping hand and a smile.

Preceded in death by her parents Anton I. and Gertrude A. Liebscher, and her brother Gary F. Liebscher, Ilse is survived by her daughter Dawn Avery Serpas, son-in-law Scott Serpas, and granddaughter Vivienne Serpas.

A graveside service to celebrate Ilse’s vibrant and full life will be held on Friday, July 12, 2024, at Garrett-Hillside Cemetery in Waynesville, North Carolina, beginning at 11:00 AM.

A Celebration of Life for Ilse to be scheduled in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Ilse's legacy of love, kindness, and adventure will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those who knew her best. As we say goodbye, we take comfort in knowing that Ilse lived a wonderful life, full and vibrant, without missing a thing.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the Arizona Humane Society in her honor.
