Jacqueline "Jackie" Ann Ranby

June 25, 1947 — May 26, 2025

Phoenix

Jacqueline “Jackie” Ann Ranby was born on June 25, 1947, in Forest City, Iowa. She was the daughter of Richard and Harriet (Rye) Madson. After brief stays in Mason City and Storm Lake, IA, her family moved to Hutchinson in 1958. Jackie was confirmed in her faith at Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. She graduated from Hutchinson High School Class of 1965. In high school, Jackie participated in synchronized swimming and played in the band.

Jackie attended the University of Minnesota and proudly graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Work after giving birth to her son, Eric. She was grateful to her sorority sisters for their support and babysitting while she completed her degree. Jackie then worked for the Ramsey County Welfare Department.

In 1977, Jackie moved to Arizona with her first husband and two sons. During her career at Arizona Department of Economic Security, she started as an eligibility worker, and then worked in Quality Review, and Policy. Jackie found her niche when she joined the Special Projects Team where she ran the employee appreciation program; and worked on the design, procurement, and implementation of a new case management system. She also led the team that converted case management from paper files to electronic files.

In 1990, Jackie married John W. “Jack” Ranby. Together they enjoyed 35 loving years of marriage, which included travel to the United Kingdom, New Zealand, summers on Vancouver Island; and, of course, many trips to Minnesota.

Family was always important to Jackie. After retiring in 2008, she launched into genealogical research. Her journey through family history led to friendships with extended family and fellow researchers in Minnesota. She was an avid collector and maker of scrap books.

Jackie was smart; strict, but fair; and always giving and loving.

Jackie died on May 26, 2025, at the Dementia Care and Education Campus of Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix. The family is grateful to the staff for the happy times and compassionate care she received. Jackie was buried in Minnesota with her parents and brothers.

Jackie is survived by her husband, Jack; sons, Eric Peter Lee (Barb) and Andrew Jon Lee (Ginger); step-sons, Scott (Krista) and Jeff Ranby; nephew, Ryan Madson; and many other relatives and friends in AZ, IA, and NH. Jackie is preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Harriet Madson; brothers, David and Jon Madson; and first husband, Ned Lee.
