Jane D Wearshing

Jane Doris Wearshing was born on November 9, 1935 in Camden N.J. to Grover and Doris Wearshing. After graduating from Moorestown High School in New Jersey, she applied and was accepted to St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Trenton N.J.

When she graduated in 1959 she began a 40+ year career in nursing starting with Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Burlington County Hospital and Cherry Hill Hospital, all 3 in New Jersey. The last was a new hospital which Jane was a key staff member in setting up the new nurses, particularly in the Emergency Room.

In April of 1967, Jane enlisted in the U.S. Air Force Nurse Corps. After Basic Officer Military Training, she was sent to Cam Rahn Bay in South Vietnam to care for soldiers with battle injuries from 1968 and 1969, and taught Corpmen on the base emergency care.

After Jane’s return to the United States from Vietnam, she was stationed at Luke A.F.B. Her new tasks included directing and administrating nursing services. She was also responsible for writing a manuel for the Aeromedical Evacuation System and compiled an Orientation booklet for new nurses.

Jane moved into the Air Force Reserves, continuing to serve at Luke A.F.B. as "Arizona Nurse Administrator" from 1974 and 1989 and as Air Force Nurse Unit Reserves "Arizona Instructor" and "Auditor" from 1984 to 1989. Through all this, Jane managed to earn her Master of Science in Administration and Management of Nursing and Health Care in 1979 from ASU.

Jane finally retired in 1989 after many years of service. Before she left she had accumulated several awards and commendations including 2 Air Force Commendation Medals and a Certificate of Appreciation from Tactical Air Command, USAF, and left with the position of Lieutenant Colonel. During her many medals and commendations and left as a proud Lieutenant Colonel.

From 1986 to 1993, Jane assisted the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System monitoring level of care & auditing AHCCCS covered services. 1993 to 1994 had Jane at Health Temp in Mesa auditing for various health organizations including AHCCCS. Lastly in 1995 she assisted at the Maricopa County Medical Eligibility Dept. reviewing 100% of County considered claims for covered services.

Jane was single and was extremely generous in giving of her time and donations to those who needed it. She had a long association with Maggie's Place, knitting blankets for the young mother's babies. She also volunteered with serving holiday meals for St. Vincent de Paul. She was also an avid reader and excellent at all handcrafts.
