In humble acceptance of God’s will, we announce the passing of Jo-Ann E. Garnham, age 77, on February 10, 2024. Jo-Ann was born on January 22, 1947, in Phoenix, Arizona, and was one of four children born to Joe and Lupe Escalante. She was preceded in death by her parents and youngest brother, Ernie Escalante.
She had a lengthy career at the phone company and retired after 25+ years of service. Jo-Ann especially loved the title of “Nana Jana.” She had a vivacious personality and always made people around her laugh. She had a knack for making friends everywhere she went. From Village Inn, grocery stores, the casino, a nail salon, and Brass Armadillo. She always told you the truth even if it wasn’t what you wanted to hear. Jo-Ann enjoyed the holidays, family gatherings, casino time, and most of all singing and dancing.
Survivors include her daughter Michele Valenzuela, granddaughter Natalie Smith, grandson Christopher Wing, and great-grandchildren, Anabella, Caleb, and Alyssa. Sisters Beatrice Soqui, Ida Neal, and many nieces and nephews.
Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace.
A Mass in her honor will be held on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at 10:30 A.M. at The Casa Franciscan Renewal Center. 5802 E. Lincoln Dr., Scottsdale, Arizona 85253.
