John was born in 1930 to John (Jack) and Linda Bruder, and was raised on a farm north of Wells, Minnesota. He passed away at the age of 95 on September 4, 2025.
He graduated from Wells High School in Wells, Minnesota in 1948, and went on to begin studies in agriculture at the University of Minnesota.
During the second quarter of his junior year at the University, the Korean War began, and John enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he was an electronic technician and an instructor teaching advanced radar systems.
After John’s discharge, he went back to the University for 2 more years and earned his bachelor’s degree in agriculture in 1956. That same year he began farming North of Wells and married Beverly Rudeen. They have 3 children, Amy, Deen, Paul and two grandchildren, Jenna and Dylan.
In 1960 they quit farming and moved to St. Paul, Minnesota when John was hired as an electronic technician in the computer engineering section of Univac. He then began taking engineering classes at the University and in 1966 he was promoted to senior computer memory design engineer.
In 1967 he left Univac and joined General Electric Large Computer Division in Phoenix as a senior computer memory design engineer.
In 1969 he left GE and joined Quadri Corporation as VP of research. In 1980 he and David Ripley bought out the rest of the stockholders and sold the company in 1987 and retired.
John has eleven computer memory patents and three solid electrolyte battery patents.
John will be laid to rest with his wife Beverly. A graveside service with military honors to celebrate John Bruder’s legacy will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at 11:00am.
