John Robert "JR" Erley

Phoenix AZ - John “JR” Robert Erley, age 36, of Phoenix AZ, formerly of Belleville IL passed away Friday, Dec 20, 2024. JR was born at Ellsworth Air Force Base, SD on March 2, 1988. JR will be remembered as a loving son, brother, uncle and friend. He is leaving behind a legacy of laughter, adventure and love. He lived life with an unmatched passion, bringing joy and humor to everyone lucky enough to know him. 

A true explorer at heart, JR traveled the world, collecting stories and friendships from every corner of the globe. From bustling cities to remote villages, his curiosity and charm left an indelible mark on people everywhere. JR was always finding ways to bring people together, often with laughter. With his wit, he could light up a room and reminded us all not to take life too seriously. He loved music, cooking, working out, was enrolled in the Wine and Sprit Education Trust (WSET) program and Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) certified. He graduated from McKendree University in Lebanon IL.

Though his time with us was far too short, JR’s impact will endure in the stories shared, the memories cherished and the laughter that echoes in our hearts. He was also an organ donor, saving the lives of 4 people and offering hope to families during this holiday season. 

He is survived by his mother, Jennifer Ahrens, father, John Erley, stepmother, Nit Erley, 2 brothers, Michael and Raymond and 1 sister, Evelyn. He is preceded in death by 1 sister, Melissa. He also leaves behind several cousins and other family members. 

Visitation will be held from 5-8 pm, Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Whitney & Murphy Funeral home, 4800 E Indian School Rd, Phoenix AZ 85018. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm, Friday, January 3, 2025, at St Francis Xavier Parish, 4715 N Central Ave, Phoenix AZ 85012. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that those who wish please make contributions to the Society of St Vincent de Paul. We hope you will honor his memory by sharing laughter, embarking on an ad-venture or simply cherishing time with loved ones.
