JR Marschall

May 6, 1944 — April 4, 2024

Phoenix

John Ronald "JR" Marschall, born in Miami, AZ, to Bob and Edith Marschall, JR graduated from Miami High School in 1962. He earned his bachelors in Construction Management from ASU in 1967. JR married Hanna Rae Zimmerman in June 1967, and their son, Ron, was born in November of 1975.

JR started his career at DOW chemical in Midland, Michigan. He and Hanna moved to Denver, in 1972, where JR worked at the Rocky Flats Nuclear Weapons Plant until the site's official clean-up and closure in 2005.

The son of a machinist and a master craftsman, JR was known for his ability to build and fix just about anything. His woodworking was a particular talent and he filled his homes in Colorado and Arizona with custom-built wood furniture, cabinets, shelves and art.

In Denver, JR found his passion for restoring classic cars and joined The High-Country Early Ford V8 Club. He restored a 1937 Ford coupe, 1939 Mercury convertible, 1953 Ford F100 pickup, 1957 Thunderbird, 1968 Mustang convertible and finally his dream car: a red 1934 Ford Roadster.

His wife of over 40 years, Hanna, preceded him in death in 2008. They enjoyed country dancing every week and attending car club events and sorority dinners with friends. Following the birth of his first grandson, Liam, in 2009, JR moved back to Arizona.

In Arizona, JR spent time surrounded by family and his beloved dog Bo attending his grandsons’ sports and music events, fishing at the cabin with his brother Dave and visiting his mother Edith and sister Kathi. He enjoyed travel adventures with family visiting the Martimbianco relatives in Italy, rafting the Grand Canyon, salmon fishing in Alaska, and annual California car show trips with his cousin Larry. JR was always happy to be back home working in his garage on his cars or relaxing on his porch enjoying Arizona’s beautiful desert views with Bo.

JR is survived by his son Ron Marschall, daughter-in-law Nicole Haas, grandsons Liam and Nolan Marschall, as well as his mother Edith Marschall, sister Kathi Marschall, brother Dave Marschall, sister-in-law Beth Marschall, and numerous beloved cousins, relatives, and friends.
