In Loving Memory of John Dominic Sucato, Sr. ~ March 12, 1941 – July 9, 2025
John Dominic Sucato, Sr. beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle passed away peacefully on July 9, 2025, at the age of 84. Born in Poughkeepsie, New York, on March 12, 1941, John lived a life centered around family, love, and enduring strength.
John was the devoted husband of Joni Navarro Sucato and a proud father to Lisa Sucato Politi, John Sucato, Jr., Michelle Sucato Senden, Danelle Sucato Morris, Rocco Sucato, and Dominic Sucato. He also lovingly embraced his stepchildren, Nick Cipolla and Jackie Cipolla, as his own.
He was a treasured grandfather to Chad Sucato, Joshua Sucato, Derek Zieder, Nicholas Zieder, Matthew Shannon, and Alyssa Shannon; and a joyful great-grandfather to Johnny Sucato, Kimberly Sucato, Jayce Sucato, Clementine Rael, Luke Rael, CeCi Cipolla, and Brody Cipolla. Each generation was touched by his wisdom, warmth, and unwavering love.
John is also survived by his two loving brothers, Ray Sucato and Terry Sucato. He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen Germano Sucato and Salvatore Sucato, his brother Edward Sucato, and his sister Agnes Sucato.
John’s legacy was one of hard work and deep love for his family. As a teenager, he dreamed of going to college and becoming a doctor. But with the early birth of his first child, he put those aspirations aside and instead poured his energy into supporting his growing family. He entered the family business and became a talented, award-winning bricklayer (yes, there are awards for that!) a craft in which he excelled with pride and artistry.
Throughout his career, John achieved great success and was proud of the many buildings and projects he helped bring to life with brick, block, and stone. He loved pointing them out around town, each one a quiet monument to his dedication and skill.
In his later years, John slowed down and turned more fully toward his family. Those years were filled with his most cherished moments…surrounded by children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, sharing meals, humorous stories, and love. His presence, his pride, and his unforgettable smile will be deeply missed by all of us.
A funeral service to honor John’s life will be held on Thursday, July 31st at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Theresa Catholic Church in Phoenix, Arizona.
