John Lawrence Undiano

John Lawrence Undiano, 87, left his beloved wife of 37 years, following the Light to Our Lord on August 25, 2026 at 08:13. Born at St. Joseph's Hospital to John A. Undiano and Eula Wood Greenwood. He attended Tolleson High School graduating with honors on 1957. Voted most likely to succeed he attended U of Arizona studying Aeronautical Engineering, graduated 1962. 

He celebrated earning his private pilots license. While watching Sputnik, the first Russian Satellite in the dark Tucson sky he realized, "We are going to the moon". While waiting for responses to his resume he received a phone call, "Want to go to the moon?" His experiences at his fraternity Lamda Chi dinner table contributed to his administrative skills. He worked on a detailed portion of the Apollo Flight Program in Huntsville Alabama. 

When we lost interest in space exploration he entered the main frame computer business. Beginning with G.E. it became a worldwide computer business; leading to development of large room filling computers that run our country and businesses. In the course of his career he travelled to twelve countries including Japan and Switzerland. His ability to adapt to  varied environments came from a wild and free childhood home in Alaska. His heroic step-father George Greenwood, a gunner on a B-17 in WWII was stationed there. 

His first marriage to Bettina Geordano, blessed the family with three children Mark, Robb, and Marisa. John now has twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren. His later marriage in 1998 began with a bloody trip to the E.R. where Joyce Lynn Pitchford, second daughter of Col. Harold Ivan Pitchford, worked as a nurse. For thirty-seven years John and Joyce hiked and laughed through life's gifts and surprises. To teach his sons the skills he had learned scouting in Alaska he led their Boy Scout Troup on many hiking adventures. Both sons achieving Eagle Scout awards. His travels led to researching the history of the Undiano name. His book, "The History of the Undiano Family" is available through the Mormon Church online historic library and traces the family to 1290. He was a parishioner at St. Thomas the Apostle Church after his travels for work settled him in Phoenix in the early 1970's. 

Rosary visitation will be held at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 East Indian School Road, Phoenix, Arizona 85018, Thursday, August 27, 2026 from 4:00-6:00p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 2312 East Campbell Avenue, Phoenix, Arizona 85016, Friday, August 28, 2026 at 10:00 a.m.
