Jose Manuel Batres Gonzalez

December 25, 1973 — January 19, 2024

Glendale

Jose Manuel Batres was born on December 25, 1973, to J. Antonio Batres and Juana Gonzalez in Ojo Caliente, Zacatecas Mexico. He was the sixth of seven children. Manny went to school in Mexico but learned most of his skills from his father.

At age 21, Manny immigrated to the US. Manny lived, worked, and joined the First Baptist Church in Long Beach, California. It was in the city of Long Beach where he met his future wife. On April 22, 2006, Manny married Beatris and became a stepfather to Adelaida and Mark Anthony. In December 2007 Manny and Betty suffered the loss of the quintuplets: Jose Manuel Jr., Ezequiel, Esmeralda, Joshua, and Sarah. Shortly after in 2008 they were blessed with their rainbow baby Manuel, followed by Joshua in 2016. Manny moved his family to Glendale Arizona in 2018, where they purchased the house of their dreams and welcomed Esmeralda in 2020.

Manny was a jack of all trades. There was nothing he couldn’t fix or build. While he worked many jobs, he grasped new skills and made many friends along the way. He shared his knowledge with his brothers, brother-in-law, and mentored his nephew. Manny did a lot of pro bono work for his family, friends, and community as that was the kind of person he was.

On Tuesday, January 16th Manny suffered an ischemic stroke. He was pronounced brain dead on Thursday, January 19th at 5:25pm at Banner Desert Medical Center in Meza Arizona. Manny’s organs were donated and along with all his loved ones, he did the HERO’s March on Tuesday, January 23rd.

He is survived by his wife Beatris, his children Adelaida, Mark Anthony, Baby Manny, Joshua, and Esmeralda, also his father J. Antonio Batres, and siblings Jose Luis, Jose Antonio, Carmela, Jose Guadalupe, and Liliana Batres.

A viewing will be held on Friday, February 2nd at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home located at 4800 E Indian School Rd. in Phoenix, Arizona from 5-8 pm. Manny will be transported to California where he will have a celebration of life at Forest Lawn located at 4471 Lincoln Ave. in Cypress on Tuesday, February 13th at 2pm and will be laid to rest.
