Kenneth Alan Tollackson, 92, passed away in Phoenix on November 30th, after a long and courageous battle with melanoma. He was born in Tacoma, Washington to Joseph Tollackson and Geneva Alice McKenzie. Ken graduated at the top of his class at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington, after which he attended Harvard Medical School (Class of 1958). He served a tour of duty in the U.S. Navy after medical school, working as a ship’s medical officer and stationed at Treasure Island in northern California. Ken then moved to the Los Angeles area where he began working as a pediatrician. He moved to Phoenix in 1968 to establish his own private practice specializing in pediatric allergy. During his 38 years in this practice, Ken took on leadership roles in the local Pediatric Society and was proud to advocate for with the establishment of Phoenix Children’s Hospital. In retirement, Ken most enjoyed golf, bird-watching, gardening, and reading about history. Ken is survived by his beloved wife Ann (53 years married), his children Kendra Tollackson (John Hannah), Julie Tuttle (Mo), Tom Sawyer (Micki), Heidi Sawyer, and his nephew Barry Rich (Joy). In addition, Ken loved his seven grandchildren (Elizabeth, William, Thomas, Clinton, Joel, Kyle and Brie) and his 3 great grandchildren. A celebration of life is planned for Sunday afternoon, December 21st, at 1pm at Whitney & Murphy Funeral home, 4800 E. Indian School Road. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation in Ken’s name to Phoenix Children’s Hospital.
