Lawrence William “Larry” Winters Jr, age 88 passed away peacefully on May 17, 2026 in Phoenix, Arizona.
Larry was born on December 3, 1937, in Detroit, Michigan to Lawrence William Winters and Cecile (Simard) Winters. As a child he spent summers in Montreal, Canada, where his mother’s family lived, creating cherished memories and a lifelong appreciation for family and tradition.
A gifted athlete, Larry especially loved baseball. After high school he briefly played semi-professional baseball as a pitcher in the Cincinnati farm league. He proudly served in the United Stares Army and continued playing the sport he loved with the 52nd group in the Fort Sill League.
Larry married his high school sweetheart MaryAnn Duffy, beginning a love story that lasted nearly 67 years. Together they built a strong and loving family. They lived in the Detroit area until 1971, when Larry and MaryAnn, along with their six children, made the cross country move to Phoenix, Arizona in search of adventure and new opportunities.
Larry spent his career in construction sales and was respected for his work ethic and ability to connect with people. He loved flying and held a private pilot license. Above all, Larry loved helping coach his children and their friends, sharing his support and knowledge.
A devoted Catholic, Larry’s faith was the foundation of his life. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and lived his life with deep loyalty to God and family.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife, MaryAnn; his children, Teri (John), Larry (Andrea), Jim (Cindy), Erin (Sal), David (Ramona); 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Colleen (Tom).
Larry will be remembered for his smile, love of family, faith, sports and the example he set for all who knew him.
A private mass and burial at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona will be held at a later date.
