Luan Kim Truong

March 27, 1945 — January 13, 2026

In Loving Memory

Our hearts are heavy as we bid farewell to a woman whose strength, grace, and boundless love touched every life she encountered. Luan Kim Truong was a beloved daughter, a sister of six, a mother of ten, grandmother of nineteen, and great-grandmother of two.

Luan was born in Vietnam in 1945 and married in pursuit of happiness and honor. She arrived in America as a refugee in 1978 and came with the hope and unshakable determination to build a better future for her family. Shortly after arriving in California, she found herself alone raising nine children. As a single mother who did not speak English she navigated an unfamiliar culture with courage, and quietly transformed every obstacle into opportunity. Luan always felt uneducated, yet she was able to communicate in limited English and unknowingly do Singapore math to get through life in America. Imagine walking through a grocery store mindlessly picking up items and then getting to the register with the exact amount of money. If she ever was wrong, she was generally off by a penny or so. Luan also learned enough Chinese kanji from a best friend to effortlessly recite Chinese poems as a pastime. The language barrier, the struggle to provide for her family, and her lack of formal education did not diminish her will to give her children the best future possible. These challenges revealed the extraordinary strength within her and brought to light her sweet, thoughtful, witty, humorous and loving spirit.

Until her final days, Luan held no regrets. She believed whole heartedly that every sacrifice was worth it because her family had grown to include grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family had grown so big that she had to learned six languages to interact with everyone.

We are forever grateful for her sacrifice, her wisdom, and her unwavering love. She gave us the greatest gift imaginable: the opportunity for a better life, and in doing so, she showed us what it truly means to be strong, to love without limits, and to face the world with grace.

Though she has left us, her spirit remains in every act of kindness we extend, challenges we overcome, and love we share. She was, and always will be, our greatest inspiration. She leaves behind a legacy that will echo through generations. If you would like to help with the legacy, you can donate to Ironwood Cancer Center (https://www.ironwoodcrc.com/).
