Peggy Schirmer, 94, of Phoenix, AZ passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2026.
Peggy was born in Cleveland, OH on January 21, 1932, and resided there until the mid-fifties when she moved to Phoenix. She graduated with honors from Marygrove College in Detroit, MI with a Degree in Journalism. She started her career in journalism in Cleveland. In the mid-fifties, when she moved to Phoenix, she continued her career at Safeway and J.C. Penney’s, retiring in the early 80s.
After retiring, she volunteered with Radio Family Rosary which had just begun airing the Rosary on the radio. With her journalism background, she helped immensely in the growth of the Rosary Apostolate which she was part of for 35 years.
In her retirement, she walked to daily Mass at St. Francis Xavier Church and stayed afterwards to pray the Rosary. She met many souls and was always willing to share her knowledge. On March 18, 2019, she suffered a stroke and moved to an assisted living group home. She considered it two of her many blessings that she could watch the daily live Mass on EWTN and continue her work with the Radio Family Rosary Program.
Even though her family lived back East, she kept in contact with them. Many family members came to see her and she cherished them and their visits. Her four brothers remained part of her life until they passed. She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis Charles Schirmer and Margaret Lang Schirmer and her four brothers, William (Bill), Charles, (Chuck) Bob and Tom.
