Mary Arteaga Perez, a lifelong resident of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away on Nov. 3, 2026. As a single mother, she worked tirelessly to raise her children, instilling in them the same values her parents, Mexican immigrants, instilled in her: love of Christ and one another, hard work, and living within your means. Mary ultimately went on to become a dedicated employee at a local engineering company from where she retired and was recognized for her strong work ethic. In her retirement years, Mary became a longtime member of her neighborhood, senior center, where she could often be found serving coffee and lunch, retrieving lunch trays and bingo cards and always happy to lend a helping hand to those around her. It was her willingness to help others that so many came to love. She found great joy in simple pleasures: cheering on the Arizona Diamondbacks (even crushing on Corbin Carroll!), experiencing new adventures on her travels, tending her garden, dancing and painting.
She is survived by her children, Cindy, son-in-law Marshall, Laura, MaryJo, and Mark, 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 2 brothers.
Rosary and visitation will be held at Whitney and Murphy Funeral Home, 48th Street and Indian School Road, Phoenix, on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, 5045 E. Thomas Road, Phoenix, on Thursday, November 12, 2026, 10:00 a.m., immediately followed by burial at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, 2033 N. 48th Street, Phoenix.
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let Your perpetual light shine upon her. “But once I’m gone and on my way, my past deeds will stitch what’s said. So let my heart open wide each day that it may be said – she loved big.”
