Maryanne Rita Farrell Mercure

Maryanne Rita Farrell Mercure, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, teacher, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2025, at the age of 77. She was born on May 15, 1948, in Flagstaff, Arizona, to the late Rita and Pat Farrell. She was also preceded in death by her cherished grandson, Liam McGowen.

In 1969, Maryanne met the love of her life, Randy Mercure. The two married on August 7, 1970, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion. Earlier this month, they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.

Maryanne is survived by her devoted husband, Randy; her two children, Craig Mercure (Cheryl) and Laurie McGowen (Matt); and her six grandchildren who were the pride of her life—Grace, Drew, Mason, Carter, Brielle, and Allie. She brought endless joy to her family, especially during Christmas celebrations, family vacations and “Grandma Camp.”

She is also survived by her loving siblings: Pat Farrell (Julie), Mike Farrell (Cindy), Steve Farrell (Kyle), and Barbara Paul.

For more than 30 years, Maryanne passionately served as an educator in the Wilson School District. She was deeply committed to improving the lives of her students and left a lasting impact on countless children and families through her dedication, compassion, and love of learning.

Maryanne’s legacy is one of kindness, selflessness, and an unwavering devotion to her family, her students, and her community. She will be remembered for her warm heart, her love of teaching, and the cherished memories she created with those closest to her.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 6th, 2025. An Open House will be held from 1:00 - 1:30 pm with the Celebration of Life at 1:30 pm at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix, AZ 85018. A Reception will follow at The Herb Box, 7051 E. 5th Avenue, Scottsdale, AZ 85251.
