Maureen Ann Kempton passed away at 83 on Sunday, June 1, 2025. She was born July 18, 1941, in Montpellier, Vermont. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology from C.W. Post College. Maureen was a decorated New York City Police Detective serving in both Homicide and Sex Crimes during her tenure. She also served as an investigator for the New York State Attorney General’s Office and volunteered for many years with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
She is survived by her three children, Maureen, Timothy, and Michaela Freemantle, her husband, Larry; her six grandchildren, Timothy Vincent, Michael Roth, Matthew Joseph, his wife Makinzi, Zachary Vincent Freemantle, Catherine Nicole, and Ian Michael Freemantle. She has two sisters, Geraldine Sullivan and Patricia Groom, and 20 nieces and nephews. Her husband of sixty-three years predeceased her in February of 2024.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, June 12th at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 5045 East Thomas Road, Phoenix, Arizona 85018. Please, in lieu of flowers, a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital would be greatly appreciated.
