Oscar R. Mejia aka Longo was born on September 19, 1948, in Phoenix, Arizona. He passed away on January 18, 2023, at Banner University Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. He married Angelita Murillo Mejia on June 9, 1967, and together they shared a family of children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
He instilled his values upon his children with the toughest love. Still, they knew him to be the kindest, most caring and understanding of fathers. A teller of tales, both small and tall, he entertained all with stories of his rambunctious youth, growing up in the Grant Park neighborhood of central Phoenix. Or stories of his brutal hand to hand fist fight with Bigfoot, in the forests of Flagstaff, AZ. He was a character and truly larger than life.
Oscar attended Phoenix Union High School and was a Maintenance Engineer for 35+ years with Arvin Air Systems, W.L. Gore and Associates, and the Paradise Valley Country Club until his retirement in 2014.
He is preceded in death by his son, Reggieray Mejia and daughter in law, Delora Altamirano Mejia. As well as several family members and loved ones lost over his lifetime. Though not mentioned here individually, they are remembered eternally.
He will be loved and missed by his wife, Angelita Murillo Mejia; daughter Angela Marie Mejia; sons Anthony Martin Mejia, Richard Alexander Mejia, Michael Raymond Mejia and his wife Christina Giles Saunders-Mejia; grandchildren Marcus Anthony Mejia and his wife Denise Guzman Mejia, Matthew Andrew Mejia, Madisen Angel Mejia, Ashley Regina Macias and her husband Gabino Macias, Izabel Marie Mejia, William Anthony Saunders, Nathaniel King Saunders, and Joseph Sumner Gordon; great grandchildren Camila Cyrena Mejia, Nicolas Cefirino Mejia, and Camila Christina Macias; surviving siblings John Celaya and Eva Curtis. He is us and we are him.
