Moussa Boutros Abi Hanna

Moussa Boutros Abi-Hanna (66) of Cottonwood, Arizona, entered eternal life peacefully on July 14, 2025 in Phoenix AZ, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was the beloved father of Emma Joy and Elie Joe Abi Hanna, and the cherished husband of Hoda Chaer for 28 years.

Moussa was born in Dekwané, Lebanon on April 28, 1959, to Boutros Abi-Hanna and Soumaya Torbey, who are respectively from Mechmech and Tanourine, Lebanon.

He moved to the United States in 1988 and joined his brother Tony in Sedona, Arizona. They jointly owned and operated the local favorite restaurant, La Mediterranee de Sedona. The restaurant's success led to the opening of the sequel, La Mediterranee II (de Scottsdale). Moussa continued his career as a restaurateur and Executive Chef even after Tony’s passing. Out of a beautiful river-rock building located on 206 S Main St that reminded him of his home in Lebanon, Moussa ran multiple restaurants including: Hanna’s Garden, Bubba's Barbeque, Rock Cafe and The Five Bs. The restaurant is now run by Concho’s Mexican Restaurant, where Moussa loved to enjoy some ceviche and albondigas soup.

Moussa spent his final years pursuing various hobbies including restoring cars, traveling with his wife Hoda, hiking, entertaining and cooking for his friends, and having daily calls with his siblings and a multitude of friends and cousins in Lebanon. When at home, he was usually consuming copious amounts of American and Lebanese TV content, and hanging out with Elie's cat Stormy. For the last two and a half years he also kept local establishments well-stocked for Hensley Beverage Co., where he did what he did best — mentoring his peers at work, and continuing to easily making friends with everyone he met — a culmination of years of passion and experience in the food and beverage industry.

Moussa is survived by his wife Hoda Chaer, daughter Emma Joy, son Elie Joe; his siblings Adel & Asma; his sibling-in-laws Claire Del Signore, Joseph Zaccack, Tony & Marie-Rose Chaer, Pierre Chaer, Najwa Chaer & Farid Neemtalla, Noha Chaer & Fahrli Hashish; nieces & nephews Pierre, Jacques, Nolan, Peter, Adam, Joe-Elio, Ralph, Georgio, Pio Pedro, Sarah, Christine, Nicole, Sam, Jo-Ella, Joy, Pia Maria & grand-niece Amal, and an extensive list of cousins, nephews, and nieces located all over the world.

Friends and family are invited to a funeral service that will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday July 26th, 2025 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (Address: 700 N Bill Gray Rd, Cottonwood, AZ 86326). A celebration will follow at the church hall after the service.

A 40 Day memorial service will be held at St. Joseph Maronite Catholic Church (Address: 5406 E Virginia Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85008). More details to come.
