Oscar A. McCoy, 93, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 29, 2025. Born in Tucson, Arizona, to James and Teresa McCoy, Oscar lived a life defined by dedication, service, and honor.
He proudly served in the United States Army for 28 years, retiring with the rank of Sergeant First Class. A Vietnam War veteran, Oscar was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroic achievement in combat. His commitment to service continued beyond the military, with careers at the Arizona State Department of Corrections as a Corrections Officer and at the Phoenix Municipal Courts as a Security Officer.
Oscar remained deeply connected to the veteran community throughout his life, actively participating in a military Color Guard unit for many years. His pride in his service and his contributions to others were evident in all he did.
He is preceded in death, and reunited in heaven with his daughters, Diane Marie McCoy and Catherine McCoy Villela, and his grandsons, Gregory Ruiz and Ian McCoy. Oscar is survived by his wife, Ida Ortiz-McCoy; his sons, Oscar J. McCoy and Rudy J. McCoy; and his grandchildren: Thomas McCoy, Joel McCoy, Aidan McCoy, Ava McCoy, Alysia McCoy, Olivia McCoy, Teri McCoy Castillo, Tanya Villela, LaLinda Villela Vasquez, Eugene Ruiz, James Ruiz, and Ariana Ruiz Garcia. He also leaves behind many cherished great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Monday, October 13, 2025 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home. Mass will be held on Tuesday, October 14 at 11:00 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church followed by the burial at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery.
