Paul Edward Pierce

Paul E. "Ed" Pierce, a lifelong Phoenix resident and devoted hockey player, died on September 21, 2026, at the age of 68. His family and friends will remember him for his love of the game, his adventurous spirit, and the many friendships he cultivated throughout his life. Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, Ed spent a brief part of his childhood in Alexandria, Virginia, before moving to Phoenix in 1965. 

From an early age, Ed developed a passion for ice hockey. As a child, the rinks at Tower Plaza and Metrocenter became second homes. This pastime became a lifelong pursuit that provided friendship, competition, and countless experiences. Over his lifetime, he travelled the world playing hockey in Canada, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Ed graduated from West Phoenix High School and attended Northern Arizona University, where he proudly played hockey for the Lumberjacks. 

In the last few years, he became a supporter of Sun Devil hockey. He began his professional career with Valley National Bank of Arizona before finding success in the mortgage industry. He later built a career in residential real estate, where his knowledge, hard work, and commitment to his clients earned him the respect of colleagues and friends alike. 

Later in life, Ed discovered a love for motorcycles. On his Harley, he explored countless miles of scenic roads throughout the Desert Southwest, Colorado, Montana, and South Dakota. He enjoyed the adventure of these long-distance rides and built an additional circle of friends who shared his love of the outdoors. These journeys became some of his most cherished memories. 

Those who knew Ed will remember his enthusiasm for hockey, his love of the open road, and his authentic and independent nature. Always outgoing, Ed had a knack for making a stranger or a recent acquaintance feel like a life-long friend. Whether on the ice, riding through the mountains, or spending time with friends and family, he embraced life on his own terms and created lasting memories for those around him. 

He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Mildred "Midge" Pierce, of Phoenix, Arizona. Ed is survived by his brother, Jeff Pierce, and sister-in-law, Donna Pierce, of Rancho Santa Margarita, California. 

A memorial service celebrating Ed's life will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at: Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 East Indian School Road, Phoenix, Arizona 85018.
