Pedro García Barron

February 21, 1971 — June 2, 2025

Phoenix

Pedro García Barron departed this world surrounded by his loved ones in Phoenix, Arizona. Though we grieve deeply, we take comfort in knowing he is now resting in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Pedro was born in Guanajuato, Mexico, into a large family of six. His childhood was marked by hardship, growing up with limited resources in rural Mexico during a time when life was anything but easy. Yet even through the challenges, Pedro stood tall with resilience, heart, and an unwavering love for his siblings — a love that remained constant through the years, regardless of differences in life or belief.

At 17, Pedro voluntarily joined the Mexican military — He served with honor across several states, including Colima, Nayarit, and Guerrero, where he helped combat organized crime during a difficult time in Mexico’s history. He spoke with pride about his training, the friendships he formed, and the spirit of competition among his fellow soldiers. He was once offered a position as a musician within the military — a role focused on morale — but he turned it down, as it would have taken him away from serving in the field. Pedro wanted to be where he was needed most, side by side with his fellow soldiers. He sent his earnings home to support his mother — a reflection of the kind of man he was: strong, compassionate, and always putting others before himself.

In the early 1990s, Pedro immigrated to Phoenix, Arizona, seeking opportunity and the hope of building something greater for his family. He arrived in the U.S. without knowing a word of English — a challenge that would discourage many. But Pedro never let obstacles define him. He pushed forward with determination and humility, fueled by his commitment to providing for his loved ones.

Though he had no formal experience, Pedro found work as a mechanic — a profession often marred by mistrust. But Pedro carried himself with full integrity, always treating his work as a reflection of his character and upbringing. He often said he did business the way his mother would have wanted — with honesty and compassion. Known for letting customers name their own price, Pedro understood that car repairs could be costly. He had a soft spot for those facing financial hardship and never sought to take more than he gave. His reputation in the South Phoenix community was built on trust, humility, and genuine care — and it’s what allowed him to run a successful shop for over 14 years.

Pedro gave his life to the Lord early in his time in Phoenix. With time he met Delia Ortega in the church in which they congregated first as a friend, then as the love of his life. Together they built a marriage that spanned decades and raised four children: Jessica, Carina, Ana, and Pedro Jr.

Pedro never let humble beginnings hold him back. His first home in Phoenix was a small trailer parked beside his mother-in-law’s house, but he made a promise to build something better for his family — and he did. The home he provided became their haven and remains so today. He filled their lives with love and laughter: weekend trips to the park, drives to Flagstaff, Sedona, and Prescott, surprise pets, toys, and birthday cakes. If his kids asked for a fish, a tank would show up. A dog? You’d hear it barking by morning. His generosity was instinctive and sincere, always grounded in love.

In recent years, Pedro’s greatest joy was becoming a grandfather. When he learned his granddaughter Natalie was on the way, he awaited her with much enthusiasm. Natalie brought a special joy to his life. He embraced her with warmth, playful kisses, and deep pride. He made her first swing, bought her first pool and as he was a mechanic, he built her first ride on car in which they would ride and play with daily. He would watch her swim, held her during birthdays, and made her feel safe and treasured.

As you can see, Pedro was many things. But one of the most profound chapters of his life came in his final year, when he fully reconciled with God. No one walks a perfect path — some drift, others return in time. Through injury and hardship, Pedro found his way back to the Lord. And in doing so, he became an even greater man to those around him.

He longed to serve in ministry — to sing, to share his testimony, to give others hope through the same grace he had received. He spoke openly and selflessly about God’s love, not just to his brethren in faith, but to his children and extended family. In his final year, he hosted gatherings, sang praises, shared the Word, and even drove new members to church so they could experience the same joy. He took that same spirit of perseverance that had guided him all his life and poured it into his walk with Christ. He read scripture tirelessly, practiced worship songs, and honed his voice and heart to be the man of God he was called to be.

Pedro had big dreams for his future in faith. He read his Bible daily, and annotated verses with the hope to learn more and exalt God’s name more every day. He dreamed of starting a Bible study in his community, of spreading the gospel to those who hadn’t yet felt God’s love. He even used his skills as a mechanic to bless others — fixing cars free of charge as an opportunity to share his faith. Pedro was actively building something greater — a life of purpose through Christ — and though his time here ended too soon, his spiritual legacy lives on in each of us.

Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He makes me lie down in green pastures.

He restores my soul.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

I will fear no evil, for You are with me…

Pedro was many things — a soldier, a mechanic, a friend, a husband, a father, a brother, a grandfather. He gave his heart freely and lived with quiet strength, unwavering integrity, and a renewed spirit that touched everyone around him.

But above all, he was a man of God.

We will carry his love and example with us, always.

Rest well, Pedro. You gave this world your very best.
