Pedro “Pete” Chavez was born in St. John’s, Arizona on November 14, 1947. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on November 6th at 75 years old. He attended Phoenix Union High School. Pete worked for the City of Scottsdale for 35 years and went on to work for the Salt River Indian community for 12 years. Pete is survived by his wife, Lisa Chavez, his sister, Gina Baca and his 9 children, Pete Chavez, Loretta Aja, Christina (Chris) Sherriff, Mark (Lorrae) Chavez, Larea Butler, Valerie (Casey) Moore, Christina Smith, Selena Garcia, and Johnny Chavez. As well as his 27 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Gregoria Chavez, his brothers, Johnny Chavez and Placido Chavez and his sister, Mary Marez. Pete loved the outdoors and sports. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, playing pool and always spending time with his family. He was a strong leader and role model to his family, full of wisdom and humor, he had a way of making everyone who knew him feel special.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 13, 2023 at Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, 9849 E Earll Dr, Scottsdale AZ 85256 starting at 5 P.M. On Tuesday, November 14th at 11 A.M. a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 2312 E Campbell Ave Phoenix, AZ 85016. Burial to follow at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in Phoenix.
