Ruben Bernal

Ruben Bernal, affectionately known as “Everyone’s Papa”, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 30, 2024, in Phoenix, AZ, at the age of 84. Born on August 28, 1940, in Tempe, Arizona, he lived a full life marked by the love of those who knew him. 

He is preceded in death by his parents (Nellie and Raul Sr.) and his beloved wife, Carol Jean Bernal (Hudson). He is survived by brothers Raul Jr. and George, his sons Michael Joe (Jeri Lynne) and Daniel Scott, his two granddaughters Nicole Lynne Casey (Shawn) and Danielle Jo, his great grandchildren Adam, Anthony, Christian, Bella, Maximus, Mila, and Maverick. 

He proudly served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Jason from 1958 to 1961. He loved dancing with his Carol Jean and a good dirty martini. He looked forward to taking his family to San Diego every year to stay at Humphry’s Half Moon. Having a coffee every week with his best friend Alan Smith and getting to see his great grandchildren was all he needed to put a smile on his face. 

A memorial service will be held in his honor on Saturday, September 14th at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix, AZ 85018, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
