Sue Long

Sue Long, our beloved mother/ grandmother, age 91, went to celebrate Father’s Day this year with her Heavenly Father on June 21, 2026. She was born in Caraway, Arkansas on April 18, 1935 to Harry W. & Pearl Mae (Wolverton) Pennington.

She attended Central High School in Phoenix, AZ and graduated as valedictorian. She worked for D.E.S. as an UI Specialist. In her earlier years she enjoyed playing basketball, horseback riding, singing, and writing and performing in mini dramas with friends. She had a life-long love of reading and read hundreds of books each year.

She had a very special relationship with each grandchild and great grandchild and loved spending time with family and friends.

Her fierce desire for everyone she encountered to know her Savior, Jesus Christ, personally, came from her unshakable faith in God and her dependence on the Bible as her daily guide to life.

Sue is survived by her two daughters: Kim T Long (Bob) and Kris R Layne (Chuck), her grandchildren: Jonathan D Barnier (Heather), Brianna N Nicholas (Jacob), great grandchildren: Aiden M Barnier, Caleb D Barnier, & Riley L Barnier, her nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Richard A Long, grandson: Brandon M Chilcoat and other loved family members and friends.

We will have a pre celebration gathering at 1:00pm with a funeral service celebrating Sue’s life beginning at 2:30pm on Saturday, June 27th, at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home at 4800 East Indian School Road.
