Terry Norman Tegen, age 81, of Phoenix Arizona passed away July 5th from complications following triple bypass surgery.
Terry was born August 19, 1944 in Lincoln Nebraska. He was preceded in death by his father Donald R Tegen, mother Lavonne Tegen, and brother Scot Tegen.
Terry grew up in Independence Iowa where he was an Eagle Scout. He attended Independence High School where he excelled in athletics, winning 16 varsity letters. In Independence, he met the love of his life and wife of 59 years, Angela (Scott). Later, Terry moved to Iowa City and attended the University of Iowa.
In Iowa City, Terry co-owned Bremer’s Fine Men’s Clothing stores. He later turned his attention to the travel industry where he managed Winebrenner Red Carpet Travel in Iowa City for over 35 years. The Agency was closely affiliated with the University of Iowa and contributed to Terry’s love for Hawkeye athletics.
Terry was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Iowa City. He was a member of the University of Iowa Presidents Club and ‘I’ Club. He was also a member of the American Society of Travel Agents and supported the Salvation Army.
Upon retiring in 2019, Terry moved to Arizona full time and enjoyed the dry heat and fine dining with his family.
Terry is survived by his wife Angela (Phoenix), his son and daughter-in law Jeffery and Tami (Mesa), and his sister Pam Shurtz (Independence IA). He was also well loved by many great friends and family in the Iowa City and Phoenix communities.
Memorial Services will be held at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Phoenix with a Celebration of Life in Iowa City planned for a future date.
