June 30, 2021 3 Condolences

Louis Pietro obit pics

June 27, 1934 ~ June 22, 2021

Louis R. Pietro peacefully went home to be with Our Lord on June 22, 2021, in Phoenix, Arizona. Lou was born on June 27th, 1934, in Dunkirk, NY – the fourth of seven children born to Joseph and Josephine Pietro.

Lou graduated from Norwich University, served in the United States Army and was an Electrical Engineer by trade. His engineering skills came in handy as he always found a way to solve problems. Lou loved sports and was a devoted Diamondbacks fan. Lou was a lifelong Catholic and active in several parishes in the Diocese of Phoenix. He and Angie were founding members of St. Jerome’s and Our Lady of the Valley parishes. Lou’s Catholic faith was important to him, and he expressed this in how he used his gifts to serve the Church.

Lou had a great sense of humor and was always good for a funny comment or quick-witted statement that would have everyone laughing. Lou had a very generous heart and loved his family deeply. Angie, their children and grandchildren were always his priority. He was a wonderful father to his sons. And “Grandpa” was always there for support and always lots of fun. Lou was easy to be around and made everyone feel comfortable—like family. Lou will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him!

Lou is survived by his Beloved wife of 63 years, Angela Pietro (née Barresi) and their three sons: Michael, and his wife Beth; Jeffrey, and his wife Susan; and Joseph. He is also survived by their eight grandchildren: Chris Etling, Justin, Joseph, Victoria, Miranda, Emily and her husband Chris, Marissa and Joshua Pietro; and three great-grandchildren: Haylee, Kayden and Greyson. Lou is also survived by his sister Joanne Niebel, her husband Terry, and Lou’s brother James Pietro and his wife Barbara.

There will be a visitation held on Thursday, July 8, 2021, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM with a Rosary at 5:30 PM at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 9, 2021, at 10:00 AM at Ss. Simon and Jude Cathedral, 6351 N. 27th Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85017. Burial will immediately follow at Holy Redeemer Catholic Cemetery, 23015 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, AZ 85024.

The Pietro family is grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers and support expressed by friends and family!

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Society of St. Vincent de Paul and can be sent to Society of St. Vincent de Paul at Ss. Simon and Jude Cathedral 6351 N. 27th Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85017.
