It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ramon Alfonso Pimentel age 93 on Monday, November 15, 2021 in Phoenix, Arizona. He passed peacefully at home with family by his side. He was born on December 1927 to Alfonso and Olivia Pimentel. As a young man he enjoyed riding his pony Barney and going hunting with his grandfather. Ramon enlisted in the Air Force in 1948. His basic training was at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, and later received advanced training at Chanute AFB in Illinois. He received the Good Conduct Medal and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. Upon returning to Phoenix, he enrolled at Arizona State College in 1952 and graduated in 1957, while simultaneously working in construction. During that time, he married Benedicta Marquez at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Phoenix in 1953. Ramon and Benedicta recently celebrated 68 years of marriage this past September. Ramon began his teaching career with Roosevelt School District #66 and later moved to Phoenix Elementary District #1 from which he retired. Ramon’s career spanned over 30 years, and he enjoyed teaching and mentoring students, some of whom became life-long friends. He taught multiple subjects, including math and industrial arts. Ramon had many hobbies and interests: artisan blacksmithing, woodworking, boxing, hunting, horses and horseshoeing, saddle making, reading, cooking outdoors and baking, smoking an occasional cigar and pipe, recalling fond memories of hunting trips with his grandfather, brothers and friends, and telling jokes. Most importantly, Ramon enjoyed taking care of his family and was always available to lend a helping hand.

He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Richard, Pearl, and Marshall. Ramon is survived by his beloved wife Benedicta, daughter Anna, son Robert (Sheila), and son Alfred. Also, he also leaves behind his grandchildren Matthew (Tatum), Megan (John), Aaron, Marcus, and one great-grandson Peter. He also leaves his brothers Arthur, Robert, Joseph, and sister Ruby.

A Visitation will be held at 5:00 P.M. on Friday, November 26, 2021 with a Rosary to be recited at 6 P.M. at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 East Indian School Road, Phoenix, AZ 85018. My condolences to the whole Pimentel family. I hope you find peace in knowing how lucky you all have been for having a wonderful father who had a long wonderful life he share with all of you.
Anna, you and I had unique relationships with our dads as daddy’s girls. You know I lost my dad in ‘93 and I still laugh everyday and something we did or talked about. Those memories are precious. I know you too will find comfort in the precious memories with your dad.

As young children we who lived in Chula Vista and attended Sierra Vista were introduced to wonderful teachers. Their love of teaching molded many of us. Mr. Pimentel was of the elite
educators, he walked along side us watching us grow and only demanded the best of us.
He was stern but his determination in educating us has lasted a life time. Many of us reflect on him and smile.
We as young students only knew him as our math teacher but reading his life he was so much more.
Sorry for your loss but what a life lived, much to be proud of. It was an honor to know Mr. Pimentel as he passed through my life.

Condolence from Donna F. Zuniga on November 25th, 2021 5:10 am

My sincere condolences to Mr. Pinentel’s family.
He was my 7th and 8th grade Math teacher at Sierra Vista Elementary School. I learned so much from him and enjoyed his class time, achieving an abundance of life lessons as well as the “book learning”. His character and respect demonstrated in the classroom was exemplary and provided an example for you to strive for. I benefited greatly in life from those characteristics and examples I observed in him and have carried forward in my own life. I’m certain he touched many lives as positive way and know his “light” will continue to shine through those he touched.
Respectfully,
Donna (Patterson) Zuniga

May I extend my condolences to the family of Ramon Pimentel. While he taught Industrial Arts at Lowell School and Heard School, I was the Home Economics teacher. We shared the sme teaching schedule. He was always kind and thoughtful. I remember that during staff meetings he kept a dictionary in his hands. When the matters at hand no longer involved the “special areas” teachers, Ramon would read the dictionary. He was a special colleague who expressed his pride in and love for his family. May he rest in peace.
