REYNO, MARGARET “EDIE”

November 20, 2022 5 Condolences

Edie Reyno

Margaret “Edie” Reyno, beloved wife, mother and nana passed away on November 16, 2022 due to Alzheimer’s Disease at age 84. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, John Reyno; their two daughters, Tiffany Reyno, and Tara (Tom) Ritchie, and her granddaughter Simone Ritchie; brothers Joe (Eileen) McIvor and Alan (Shirley) McIvor and 5 nieces and a nephew. She is preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Margaret McIvor, brothers Desmond and Clifford (Skip) McIvor and daughter Tristan.

Edie will be remembered for her open heart, generosity of spirit and seemingly infinite ability to care for and advocate for others. She was known for making friends with strangers, and her good-byes were often longer than her visits. Edie was born July 27, 1938, in a small town in Borden, Prince Edward Island, Canada. She was the second oldest and only daughter of 5 children. Her hometown, her family, and her church next door became the root of so many of the values that she carried with her throughout her life.

As a young woman she met John on a blind date. However, at the time, she was more serious about her career than dating, and decided to become a traveling nurse that led her to Arizona.  She eventually went back to Canada, became engaged and then married John and then started her family and life in Arizona.  After their daughters were born, Edie took the nursing night shift so she could be home with her girls during the day. She always prioritized what was important to her and was home for her daughters to hear about their days and to be there for her husband. Being present was something she always prided herself in. However, she was always busy, starting learning disability classes at our school, championing for the underprovided, always being there for those in need.

Later, when her children were older, Edie went back to school and earned her Master’s degree in Psychology which she then put to use helping and serving others mostly in pro bono fashion. This was another beautiful reflection of her generosity and strong desire to give. Edie was usually on the go meeting friends and pursing hobbies including the gym, tennis and golf and you could always find her in church on Sundays. She loved time with family and friends, especially her only granddaughter, Simone.  Edie will always be remembered for her incredible warmth and her smile that could light up a room.

There will be a Visitation on Tuesday, November 29, 2022  from 4:30 to 6:30 pm at Whitney and Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85018.  A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at 10:00 AM at the Franciscan Renewal Center, 5802 E Lincoln Dr., Scottsdale, AZ 85253. A Reception will follow at the Paradise Valley Country Club, 7101 N. Tatum Blvd., Paradise Valley, AZ 85253.

In lieu of flowers please send donations to Alzheimer’s Association, Franciscan Renewal Center, or Hospice of the Valley.

Edie was one of the nicest ladies I have ever known. We shared morning coffees after mass for years at the Franciscan renewal center. She was always cheerful and interesting…..and had a fun sense of humor. She loved her family and faith and will be warmly welcomed in heaven. A truly lovely person who will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
