
Robert “Bob” Kirkish, 89, of Sunnyvale, California died surrounded by family on February 24, 2008 in Phoenix, Arizona. He was born on February 11, 1919 to Michael and Freda Kirkish. He married Nora Davis on April 22, 1957 in Phoenix, Arizona. Robert was a devoted husband and father, proud Army veteran, successful businessman and devout Catholic who ushered for 50 years at St. Martin Catholic Church in Sunnyvale. He and his brother Henry operated the Kirkish Store in Sunnyvale for 60 years and the store now lives on as a historic landmark. Robert’s military service held especially fond memories for him. He served 4½ years in the Army, from 1941-45, and flew 32 missions with the 452nd and 352nd Bomb Squadron in Europe as a Wing Gunner. The time spent serving our country during the war helped define the honorable and dedicated man we all loved. Robert was preceded in death by his sons Allen and Colin. He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Nora. He is also survived by his brothers Henry, Eddie, Delano Helen; sisters-in-law Helen Petersen, Genevieve Gedeon, Pauline Jim Hamra; and brothers-in-law Joe Davis, John Evelyn Davis, and Paul Shirley Davis; as well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 28th at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 2312 E. Campbell, Phoenix, Arizona with a funeral mass following at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be held immediately following the services at St. Francis Cemetery in Phoenix.

My memories of Bob came rushing back. I was a little kid and he was 20.
Today he fills my heart, as does the rest of the kirkish family.
