ROSE, ROBERT “BOB” MARTIN

July 11, 2016 Leave A Condolence

ROSE,

of Phoenix, was called home Saturday, June 25, 2016, at the age of 71. Bob was born in Chicago, IL to Martin and Miriam fondly known as Red and Mickey.

After growing up in Chicago he graduated from Chicago Teacher’s College with his B.A. in Education. He began teaching in the Chicago Public School system in 1968 and was working there when he met his wife Joy. After 15 years with Chicago Public Schools the couple moved to Phoenix in 1983. Robert and his wife ran two restaurants. The first in 1984 was Batter Up Polar Bar in Los Arcos Mall. Then in 1987 they branched out to the Pizza Encounter in Phoenix. Although they enjoyed their experience Bob was ready to get back in to Education and entered Arizona State University in 1989 graduating a year later with a Master’s of Arts in Education. In 1990 he began teaching with Phoenix Elementary School District 1. In 2003 the Arizona Republic printed an article in which he was recognized as “One of 10 exemplary teachers in the 2004 Rodel Teacher Initiative, a program that rewards teachers who work in the Valley’s poorest schools. Rodel officials selected teachers from schools in low-income areas whose classes scored well on achievement tests for three consecutive years.” Bob was a season ticket holder since day one for the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Arizona Coyotes. He had a love for stamp collecting and gardening. The love of gardening lead to him creating his landscaping business Rose and Son Lawns in 1999. Robert is preceded by his parents Martin Rose and Miriam Seitz Rose. He is survived by his wife Joy Hentschel Rose; children Robert Rose (Jacque) of Arizona, Allison of England, Gordon of Texas; brother Howard of Florida; niece Rachel of Florida, nephew Ryan of Florida; many aunts, uncles and cousins and six grandchildren.

A Viewing will be held Thursday, July 14, 2016 from 4-8pm at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix. A Graveside Service will be held Friday, July 15, 2016 at 8:30am at Green Acres Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 401 N. Hayden Road, Scottsdale.
