June SavageBetty

March 29, 1932 – May 15, 2011

Betty is home. Home with the Lord Jesus Christ. She has now had the over¬whelming privilege of seeing face to face the One for whom she has been living in excess of six decades. Perhaps the word which best describes Betty’s life is SERVANT. She was forever serving: her Lord, husband, family, friends, people she scarcely knew, single women, suffering people, young people by the score each week in the home (doctoral students to junior highers), pastors, elders, new church members, missionaries, and groups in the church from three to three hundred. There was never a suggestion that Betty served people “because she should.” Rather she was just doing what was natural for her disposi¬tion. Her life was fully infused with the One who “came not to be served, but to serve.”

A beautiful evidence that “service” was indelibly part of her being came recently, after she had lost ability to act cognitively. In the middle of the night, when asked why she was wandering down the hall, she replied, “I’m going to get some food for those people down there (hallucinating).” While Betty’s magnificent spirit will be sorely missed down here, up there she may have already heard the Lord’s commendation, “Well done, good and faithful SERVANT. Enter into the joy of the Lord.” Betty’s favorite activity was worshiping at church, renewing close friend¬ships and making new ones. Her Memorial Service will be held at Camel¬back Bible Church, 3900 E. Stanford Dr., Paradise Valley, AZ 85253, on Friday, May 27 at 11:00 a.m.

Betty is survived by the Christ-centered family she lovingly cultivated: Bill, her husband of some sixty years; son, Tim, of Scottsdale, daughter-in-law, Lesli, and grandsons, Matthew and Jonathan; daughter, Debbie Smith of San Diego, son-in-law, Herb, grandsons, Caleb and Nathan, and granddaughters, Anna and Christa; and her brother, Bruce Nelson, and sister-in-law, Nancy of Fresno, CA. Anyone wishing to make a memorial gift may direct it to Camelback Bible Church’s “Hospitality Center Fund” instead of to flowers.
