He received his wings just before the war ended and was fortunate not to see combat. Him was involved in many organizations including the Sheriff’s Air Posse and Silver Eagles, served on the board of the Arizona Historical Society and enjoyed the Polo Club. He is loved and remembered for his gentle, happy spirit and being a good friend to all. His death was preceded by his brother Ellis’ in 2013 and he leaves behind sister-in-law Sally Shackelford, nieces and nephews Diana Metzger Kessler, Kathryn Metzger, John Metzger, Sue Shackelford Spahle and Brian Shackelford along with many great nieces and nephews. A celebration for this life well-lived will be at 6:00pm, Friday, October 2, 2015 (what would have been his 90th Birthday) at the Ellis-Shackelford House, 1242 N. Culver, Phoenix, AZ 85004.
