SHEEDY JR., JOHN MURRAY

March 1, 2023 16 Condolences

John Sheedy

Our dad passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, February 25, 2023. Per his “strict” instructions we submit the following obituary on his behalf. Anyone who knew him would also agree: “I lived a blessed life, I was proud to be a loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend to all. I am off to see a girl (my wife of over 60 years) P.S. I went out with my spurs on”.

Private Family Services will be held.

Vivid memories for me and the rest of the Martins? Can I guess that “rough housing” will now be allowed???!!!

The convertible is safely back in the driveway! Love to all the 78 E. Pierson St. Sheedy clan.

The famous volleyball games at 108, dinners at the Sheedy house, SFX Little League, the Catholic Getto that everyone knew all the neighbors, lots of wonderful memories that we all cherish! John Sheedy’s presence in the Getto made it all the better.

Great memories growing up and fortunate to be around the impeccable father figure – John Sheedy. He definitely gave us the ‘look’ many times (not as many as the Martin kids). Thoughts and prayers to the Sheedy family and your growing brood.

Not only will i always be grateful for, love, and cherish the frame he made for me out of my credit-cards that he cut up in front of me (which sent chills up my spine at the time, but i DO still have it of course)…but i cherish it as a reminder of how he seamlessly and effortlessly stepped in to teach me a valuable lesson after i lost MY Dad. He stepped right up and said “this is what you’re going to do now”….and thankfully, out of respect, admiration and gratitude, i listened; and i listen to this day. I remember he said “if you have to buy it with a credit card – then you cant afford to buy it right now”. I HATE how that STILL sticks with me!! It was the pause….look at you in the eye….then shake his head and give you the advise you didn’t know you NEEDED to hear; and it came with a gentleness and non-lecturing tone that made all the difference and made it stick. If one of his own didn’t need a “dad” at the specific moment – he used that moment to be a Dad to others around him. Thank you so much Mr. Sheedy. I love you too.

Aw. My heart goes out to all of you. Mr. Sheedy!—kinda scary but I always knew he really liked me. Boy, he sure hated painter’s pants! LInda, I will always remember your going out of the house in some other kind of pant then changing into painter’s pants for the school dance. I wonder if your dad ever found out about that caper? The pants were so inexpensive and bought just up the street at Dunn-Edward’s. Such a fashion statement! The obituary made me smile. Love to Linda, Michael, Kelly, Karen and Christopher and all of. your families.

I met Mr. and Mrs. Sheedy in 1976 when I was 17 years old and they took their son, John III, to college at Loyola Marymount. I stayed in touch with both of them over the decades and spoke to Mr. Sheedy as recently as this past Groundhog’s Day, as I used to do with Mrs. Sheedy until her passing. I’m saddened at the loss of my “other” parents.

Over the years Mrs. Sheedy would say to me “Ross, you can call us John and Lore. Can you do that?” And I would reply “No, Mrs. Sheedy, I can’t”. They may both be gone, but I will treasure our friendship for the rest of my days.

Goodbye, Mr. Sheedy. Please say “hello” to Mrs. Sheedy and John III for me.

I met your Mom and Dad when my parents moved into LaSiena, Webb and Barbara Todd. After our mothers passed away our fathers became close “Bridge Buddies”. John was always so kind and gracious. I loved seeing him with all of his family. I will miss his smiling face. And I know Dad will miss his bridge partner. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

John and Lore were a young couple with a growing family when they moved to Pierson St. across the street from my Mom and Dad. They became another great family in a Catholic Ghetto (a term coined by Helen Woods) filled with many great families over the years.

John Sheedy was as fine a man as I have been privileged to know.

It was a true honor to have worked with and know John for many years.
He was ALWAYS a man of principal & integrity.
My wife Jill & I always enjoyed our times together with both John & his beloved Lore. We loved watching their beautiful family grow.
Treasure the wonderful memories that you all have of these two lovely people that we were blessed to call our friends.

When John and Lore first arrived in Phoenix from Punxsutawney, Pa in 1957, his parents and Mal’s parents held a party to introduce them to us. We quickly became good friends and for the next sixty years or so we and our growing families spent many good times together especially on holidays. During this entire time John was a great friend, always faithful, and there when needed with his great sense of humor. A truly fine man we will always admire and miss very much.
