Michael Deon Smith, age 42, passed away on November 27, 2009, in Phoenix, AZ. He was born on August 1, 1967 in Nashville, TN; son of James Jackson & Jacqueline Reed. He is survived by both parents, wife Marisa Smith, four children: Tamara 15, Kaleigh 9, Miguel 4, & Mariah 2; sister Destinie, brothers James, Jason, Jermaine, & Robert, five uncles, and five aunts. He went to be with our Lord after 15 months of a strong battle with cancer. He will long be remembered for his kind heart, laughter, generosity, and love. He loved spending time with his family and friends, watching football, riding motorcycles, and DJ’ing. He was the type of person everyone wanted to know and we are all better people because of him. He always stood up for what was right. He was a fighter until the very end. His faith in God and love for his family kept him going everyday. He will be forever loved & missed and never forgotten. We will meet again someday, my Love. God Bless. – Riss

I am so very sorry for your loss. Michael and I went to high school together. He always had a smile on his face and was one of the most positive people I have ever met. He was a dear friend and will be missed by so many. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. He is on the wings of angels now and he is smiling and laughing now.

Marisa and Family,
Words could never truly express how you all are really feeling at this time, but I can tell you that God truly did bring home a beautiful angel. I want to extend my deepest and heart felt condolences to you all for your lose. I do share in your pain because Michael was truly a special person in my life growing up. He was not only my cousin Quinn’s best friend but he was like family to all of us. Hearing of his passing hurts so much, but knowing and reading of his love that he has and children will forever make this pain somewhat easier. I will pray for you all daily and know that Michael will always be with you and your children, because you have them and he will forever live in them. God Bless you all.

While we don’t know each other well, Marissa, I loved witnessing a young couple’s love and the addition of your beautiful youngsters to our world. My heart broke when I learned of Michael’s cancer especially since I had just cared for the past 7 years for a friend, also far too young to die, who battled lymphoma valiently. What struck me about Michael was a big, open heart, a general warmth of spirit, and incredible courage (I love the desert and hiking there and even in the summer while he was sick I would catch a glimpse of Michael exploring out there) he displayed the past 2 years of his life, certainly a testament to his entire life with us on earth. I keep you Marissa and those dear angels of Michael on earth, Tamara, Kaleigh, Miguel, and Mariah always close in prayer. Thanks for quietly being part of my daily life in Gilead. Peace and love, Melissa.
